This is just plain bad news for free speech in America:
President George W. Bush told newspaper editors Thursday that he supports extending indecency regulations to cable and satellite TV…”
You expect there to be a few nuts in the government who want to censor everything that Americans read, hear, and see, but when the most powerful person in the government is a proud supporter of censorship, people should be very worried.
How can anyone, especially someone who claims he is for less government in people’s lives, support allowing extremist religious fanatics to determine what adults can watch on all cable and satellite TV and radio?
It’s a disgrace and all Americans who care about their rights and the Constitution should be outraged.
It’s because all those women said that he rated a 2 out of 10 in terms of sexual attractiveness, isn’t it? He wants to punish humanity.

A common mistake many people (especially snide ones who are not American) is that freedom of speech is not the unlimited or free. It is within the rights of congress to pass that kind of legislation. Can people see breasts in person, talk fowl language or any other sort of expression in private? Yes. Can they have sex in a public place and not expect to get arrested…even if they were claiming that act was free speech? No.
I disgree with anything but very defined and narrow censorship from the govenrment. This sort of rhetoric smacks of the radical right trying to impress its view point on the whole of America (of which I am a citizen and unlike most vote).
The media should challenege this legislation (should it come to pass) for everyone’s sake. If it is unconstitutional it should be struck down at some point.
If Americans disagree with this, they should (like I do) write their congressman and make their opion known. Stop masturbating for 10 minutes and do this. They won;t know if you are naked and sticky.
For the rest of you who are not American; fuck off.
You get ten shades of pissy when we try to tell you what is best for your country (or god forbid liberate your own country because you could not stand against an agressor). I might goof on the Frogs for being cheese eating, surrender monkeys but I do not dare be so egotistical to say what they should (or should not) do with their pathetic hasbeen of a country.
Lastly this sort of rhetoric is just that; rhetoric. It is a cheap and free way for the radical right to beat their chests and tell us what is right. You can bet the liberals do this too with their ideals of cradle to grave socialism and wasting money on those who will not even help themselves much less our country…and they do that only to foster votes.

At some point, we (the few remaining thinking Americans) are going to be forced to a conclusion–to whit, that the land of the free and the home of the brave has become the land of pathetic, narrow-minded Christian consertivism, and that Big Brother knows what is good for us (really, just ask Winston). When the head of a democratic govenrment can say that he feels the government SHOULD dictate what the citizens can and cannot be exposed to, that state is no longer a democracy by any standard.
sigh
Perhaps Jefferson was right, and perhaps we should read his trackting before the government deems THOSE to be seditious as well. Then again, if history is any indicator, once his works are burned, they wil become all of the reading rage for the main stream underground segment (you know, Mr. & Mrs Middle America–sex 3 times a month, 3 kids, 2 dogs, and a mortgage and consumer credit debit that cannot be met untill the last generation decide to “pass on” and free up some family cash), and they will only be a litte tiny bit revised by our loving government.
Anyone want to bet on the outcome of the Presidents (and Chairman’s) expressed desire? Oh, never mind–we’re not allowed to gamble unless its been sanctioned by our loving Big Brother…

How many years does he have left in office?
(moan and collapse)
I just don’t understand why adults cannot make their own choices about what they watch on television. We all have the power to change channels and watch our children. It’s not hard. It is beyond logic or reason (cue the War on Drugs and the War on Terrorism) to think you can just slap everyones’ hands at the same time and make them all believe in the bible while you are at it. It’s madness.
